Queen Mary's School is a preparatory and senior school for girls aged 7 to 16. We also have a co-educational nursery and pre-prep department for boys and girls aged 3 to 7.
We are both a boarding school and a day school. We have full and weekly boarders and day girls in about equal numbers. We run a good programme for those who stay in school at week-ends and we organise a daily school minibus service to help those who have to travel into school from some of the outlying villages.
We prepare girls for 11+, 12+ and 13+ common entrance examinations but most of our girls stay until they have completed their GCSE examinations at 16. Our expectations for all our pupils are high, and we achieve excellent results in public examinations. We are a relatively small school and are non selective at entry. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, (a much enhanced version of the national curriculum) and we set our teaching groups, therefore offering appropriate academic support both to the high flyers and those with slight specific learning difficulties.
Outside the academic sphere we aim to introduce our girls to a wide range of extra curricular activities. We have good sporting facilities and place much emphasis on art, drama and debating. Music is a huge strength of the school and we have marvellous choirs, an orchestra, wind ensembles and rock bands. Peripatetic staff teach all orchestral instruments to a very high standard and concerts feature strongly in our termly calendar.
As a Woodard School the Christian faith provides the cornerstone of our school ethos. We encourage our girls to develop a genuine concern for the needs of others and our reputation as a school with a warm family atmosphere is well founded.
